The east coast car scene is a volatile one. Any given weekend there is some sort of show going on - the vintage VW scene on the eastern seaboard here has a show nearly every weekend this summer somewhere within a reasonable driving distance. Occasionally there will be a kit or two there (other than mine), but overall I think the kit industry, at least for vintage VW, is finished. Since there are only a handful of manufacturers to make kits for a VW chassis (Dave is the only non-buggy style kit), interest in them has dropped dramatically. The generation today doesn't want 40 year old technology - they want the fuel injected, computerized monocoque chassis vehicles that they can simply bolt on aftermarket parts to. And they hate it when I'm at a local show sitting next to some 'Fast and Furious' ricer and my car gets all the attention....

So much for 40 year old technology....

I just got my delayed billing from Hertz for those Pennsylvania Turnpike tolls on the drive to and from Carlisle: $25.20! Holy Crap! No wonder the Turnpike was so free-flowing - at those rates I bet hardly anyone can afford to drive on it!

I kinda question whether or not all the fees are actually mine (it WAS a rental, after all), but it's not worth my time on the phone arguing with some indifferent operator at some overseas Hertz call center...

Sounds about right, depending on where you got on and off and how many times. For me, just to and from with the trailer was $30. And some of yours was probably the EZ Pass "rental" from Hertz. It would have been cheaper to pay cash...

I didn't think about a "rental fee" for the EZpass from Hertz...but some of those booths didn't appear to even have a cash lane.
And it was MUCH more fun to zip thru the toll booth at 30mph with the EZPass!

For my future reference, do they charge extra for trailers on the Turnpike? I seem to recall that Illinois does on their tollways...

Oh yes, PA charges per axle. Since I have a dual axle trailer and my truck is a certain weight class (2500 series), I get to play in the higher rated toll charge. You can look up what you should have paid on the PA website to double check Hertz's charges Pennsylvania Turnpike Preferred Traveler
While it's only $25 to you, it still might be worth a bitch call if they've overcharged or didn't mention the EZ pass rental fee in your rental agreement.
