Default Power side windows

I didn't come up with this idea, Yaughn did.

We discussed this some time ago and I'm not sure if he made any progress on this, since we don't keep in touch like we use to, but While I was looking for something else I came across one of the motors that was easy to remove so I decided to pull it and see how hard it would be to install it in a Sterling. After all The new side panel that I'm working on has a switch for a side window in it.

Its not high priority right now but when I get some spare time I'll see how plausible it will be to make it happen

Did a quick check to see how the motor operates.

The unit turns 360 degrees when hooked up to power. There is no limit stops, it will keep turning till power is removed.

Reverse the wire connection and it turns in the opposite direction.

Might be an override once it hits a certain 'push' threshold to keep the gears from stripping. Or the donor vehicle had a limit switch in the window frame or something similar. Interesting.. sort of useless though How hard is it to open a latch?

Got a lot going today but I pulled 2 other units from other vehicles that look to have better potential.

How hard is it to open a latch?

I bet there were people that thought the same thing about How hard is it to turn a crank handle

No time to fill in details right now. Got to go. If any one is interested I'll detail the install(if I do it)

Well Rick I guess you would know better than me. This is my first Sterling and with all of my redesigning I may never know what it will be like driving it.

I'm going by where the location of the latch was in my car.

It was located just behind the shoulders so it was awkward to reach.

Thought behind this was to make it as easy and safe as possible to open and close the windows.
One scenario is while you were driving you could open or close the drivers side and passengers side window with out getting in a wreck.

There are times while driving I like the passengers side only open. This mod would allow you to do this in a safe manor without reaching across the car fumbling around with a latch.

I'm guessing nothing you drive has electric windows and there is nothing wrong with that, but some people like them. I just figured that if it was possible to upgrade the old latch system to something a little better why not try.

Here are the 2 other units that I found. The one on the left seems to me to have the most potential of working in the tight space where I plan to put it.

Will you still have a release so you can take out the window if you want to?
I have found, my windows are out more then they are in.

LOL...I'm the opposite, I built mine to be removable but have never driven with them removed yet ! I do however drive with them open quite a lot

Hmm, those have a lower profile than I expected. Looks doable with some sort of beauty cover.

No worries Brett. I just never had an issue reaching over to flip open a window - and didn't have to lean far to do it. I'm just looking at it as another potential failure point, and as Roger mentioned, one more thing to figure out how to undo if you want the window out.

As for the hatch latch.. reaching over my head was sort of awkward but once you got the motion it was easy and quick to release.

At one point I was working on 1/2 windows a'la Lamborghini Countach where the lower half could be lowered for paying tolls and ventilation... I may have to revisit that

Oh... and if you're looking at any mods for the window opening, whether it be these electric gadgets or just a regular mechanical latch.. keep in mind whatever wing mirrors you might want to use. If the window opens too far it'll hit the mirror.

No beauty cover. Completely enclosed in the canopy. Only thing sticking out would be the stalk.

I will never understand why some people over complicate things.

Well, I'm not trying to sell this to anyone so I wont get into the good and bad points of it. Its just a small upgrade that will help bring the car more up to today's standards(I feel)

I guess I better not even mention my idea for a powered back window

Rick I understand your point of view.

As far as "undoing it" to remove the window there is a pivot pin that can be removed that will allow removal of the window or the ball joint can be popped off that will allow removal of the window.

I have thought about that but then a custom window would have to be made.
I think this was covered in another post.
