Sounds like everything is to spec. VW's typically take a straight 30 weight. I add a little ZDDP to my oil changes to put the zinc back into the mix.

180K miles??? And it's never been torn down?? Well... let's just say that you're 130K past a rebuild. In most cases, VW aircooled engines need to be torn down to the block and gone through at 50,000...
