Buying a Sterling

How much work do you want to do? I have a second generation that needs everything - its essentially just a shell and a chassis.

@letterman7 Thanks for responding

Not gonna kid myself, this will be a challenge. I don't have the expertise nor the equipment to pull it all together. I'd prefer something that has an engine, possibly even drove at some point as a starting point. So, I can do interior, wiring, here and there to get the engine running again, I can tweak, modify, and paint. This project will be a learning experience for me so I'll be youtubing, asking questions, and reading through everyone's build journals :-D

I think it is the only other one left in the states, only 5 of the 2nd generation ones were ever made from the court records of the bankrupt that I was given when bought serial number 1.... IT had it original Rover aluminum V8 engine in it with out any body modification..... It is now in London England.

I think one is now in Spain, Admin of this site has the shell one and I have this one... so they are really rare.... more engine room too.

It is the square wheel wells that give it away, a very different top lifting system using two starter motors.

Out of Sterlings I prefer the 3rd gen or as some refer a GT. I believe you have a red one and few years back you sold a brand new untouched body. That car turn out absolutely stunning.

Wow, I hadn't seen it finished. Bill did a great job! He must really love restoring them. He bought a 1st gen earlier that year of mine.. I originally found it in San Jose with just the lower body only. I then bought a red 1st gen, but the top on it was yellow and seemed a little to big for the 1st gen. So I put it on the gray car and it fit perfectly! Alot of the other parts, such as front hood, engine cover, trunk, dash ect... I copied from the red 3rd gen I still have.... i so hated parting with it.. 400lbs lighter, more head room, more engine space, all fiberglass pan, ect..than first gen.

I almost got an identical red one with a moon roof in 2008 in Gilroy, and a different white one on UTube is still in Vegas, so I think there must be a few more that were made than the soveran. Best guesses are about 20..

I would love to get a GT as well. Would look good next to my Cimbria.

I am surprised that you haven't finished the red GT. What's taking you so long? It's all there, plus you don't have shortage of parts.

Finish it? it is not at the top of the list yet. I have sold it 3 times and have always ended up with it back again. the wife wants it and the white T-top Factory to be the last to go.. and no parts are needed for it. it has it all.

Do you have pictures? I don't think I've seen it...
