To save you work you can just slice the cable off close to the board with a craft knife and I'll strip the ends back when I get it, I will have to anyway on the connector end to get a clean wire

If I do that the cable will be worthless. The cable has round ends then goes to flat and back to round.

From what I've read its a solid wire flattened so it will be more flexible. Specs state it's a pin at the end not stranded wire as others have.

01 Suzuki XL.7 AC

Just when I thought I found the smallest AC unit I find something that's smaller.
This is a AC only unit. Measures 13" (330.200mm)long X 8"(203.200mm) wide and maybe 9" (228.600mm)tall. I didn't pull the unit to get accurate demensions but the ones I posted are close

98' Montero Sport Heater

Wasn't looking for this but someone pulled the center console to the SUV and this is what was hidden inside.
This thing is so small that the blower fits in my hand completely. It uses water as a source for heat.

My guess is that it feeds off of the engine coolant system. It had two lines to it and one had a inline valve to control the water flow. I just assume that the lines are connected to the cooling system but I didn't follow them to where they went.
For a VW powered car you would have to put together something like Rick did for this to work.

My first thoughts when I found these two items were "great something even better suited for the car and I'm two far ahead with what I got to scrap it and start over". But the unit I have has both systems in it and it should work fine.
I'm going to have to stop looking for stuff like this before I find something that would be perfect for the car.

if i seriously need heat i will go for one of those cigarette lighter plug ins that have a heater fan, lol. dont plan on it being a winter vehicles all that often.

will need cool air for sure though.

I remember seeing this pic before and had to share. In all seriousness when I'm able to pick up a sterling I do like the idea of putting a lower draw air system of some kind up in the front wheel well area. I think I saw a picture on the forum of an air duck with an inline fan running through a foam ice box, there's a word for that....... Genius!*rock on*

I thought I'd put the vehicle in the title box this time but I guess alot of people don't look there so I'll
start putting it in the post.

The AC is out of a 2001 Suzuki XL.7

Heater is out of a 1998 Mitsubishi Montero Sport

All dimensions are at the widest points so it is possible to adjust the mounting position to fit in a smaller space

My own idea is to have a 1/2" copper coil in a 20L freezer box (better still with a mini fridge unit in the lid) full of ice, run that with a 12v mini pump through a matrix after the fan I already have in the front, just refill with $2 of ice from any machine or store when needed and dump the water at the end of the trip. Going by the one we use on the beach for drinks using one bag, it should be good for up to 6 hours.

Looking at that car with a genny and a domestic A/C I took one apart and first thing I noticed was it has a 240vAC to 12vDC transformer so the fan, controls etc work at 12v not 230VDC *hmmm*

The XL7 I don't think was available here in Oz, though the Grand Vitara it was based on certainly was. And the Montero was sold here as the Challenger, so at least that's here, but more needing of an a/c rather than a heater. lol

I was thinking(oh no, here we go*insane**yipes*) that if you used that blower motor off of the Montero(its got the smallest blower motor I've seen so far) and took the evaporator out of the Suzuki or the Durango and combined the two together, it would be one compact little unit and it would fit just about any where in our cars.

In my journeys though the junk yards I remember seeing a narrow condenser that may fit in the front opening of the car, and that fan I found in that MR2 could be used for the condenser.

I'm surprised that no one has come up with one that will bolt into the car. I think the demand is there and since the car is still being made it would be a good option to have for people buying the car.
You couldn't sell a car around here if it didn't have air in it. As a matter of fact I don't think you can find anything on a dealers lot that doesn't have air.

One would think we had it the same here in Marbella where we have 320 days a year sunny and summer temps over 40c (chilly and pissing it down today) but know, my e30 is airless and I think it comes as standard on new cars though but that's because you don't get the option of not having it.
IF I go the A/C route, IF I can afford it after paying over $3000 to get it legal, again, I would go for the one with an electrically driven compressor on a 5hp motor, all in the front.

Certainly the demand is there. It's the matter of designing and stocking all the components to sell as a kit. The big issue is the compressor. On a water-cooled engine, it normally doesn't matter in terms of parasitic power losses... on an air-cooled engine, those losses are noticeable, even with a new rotary style compressor. Then there is always the fitting issues, where to put the condenser, etc, etc. Sometimes the easiest solution is to have forums like these and let owners sort it for themselves!
