Picked up this advert in a local magazine called SQ dated July 2009. Mabe someone should tell SAAB that they are nearly 40 years behind time with their designs.:D
Also check out the website (bottom right)

Who's to say who is copying who? After all, the Ferrari 512 Modulo came into design and as a show car before the Nova took flight. Saab is just taking it one more step...and I really like the fact that the canopy is in three sections, with the outer two parts pivoting farther out to allow much easier access to the cockpit. Shame it'll never see production!

Ok. You guys got me on that one, did not know about those two cars.:( It seems that we are a bit isolated in this part of the woods.

:) Hence "wilderness" in your geo location? Don't take anything we say personally, Joe. Some topics can be open fodder for the gearheads amoung us. If you haven't already, check out the UK Nova site at Welcome to Euro-Nova and the forums there. If you search for items pertaining to this very topic, we had a lively discussion about the Saab and pertainent pre-Nova cars, and there should be many photos there available.

Copy cat's

Rick,

Those cars could be copy cats but if you drive with a Eagle/Sterling/Nova/Eureka people really fall out of their way to see your car from all sides. During our trip down to Vereeniging on the 6th of September it was so nice and a bit overwelming at times to be on the road. We were chosen out of about 1000 cars to be one of the five on a local magazine program called "Kwela".

OK what has this to do with the current topic. it is only a bit of news.

The post by Joe is actually why I was writing, The SAAb vehicle is excellent and it just proves that Richard Oakes is a brilliant designer because it keeps our body shape in time.

Just a litle invitation to you and Warren come visit me in Pretoria and then I will go and show you the Wilderness. It is by far the most beautiful area on this planet. Enjoy Joe as long as you can

Thanks guys

Those companies can copy the Eagle but they will not succeed. Yes the shape has never won a race of fame and yes it was a film star in amovie but still it did not won six oscars,
The real fame is that for nearly thirty years now it has appeared on our roads and it has a shape that will never age. It has this futureistic form and it has a bit of nostalgy incuded. It was never a copy of a fancy car. So for those designers thinking that their designs will be in use for 30 years into the future I say dream on.

Hey Rick that reply to my invitation is like the one to the debt collector "the check is in the post". It was so quick I did not even think that the visit counter to the site picked that one up as a reply to a post because someday might never come.

Eagle Greetings my friends

Johan:)*hi-ya*

You are probably right, Johan. South Africa is quite a ways to travel for holiday, but one never knows what the future might hold! All we can do is dream a little...*sounds great*

Regardless as to which one came first and/or who inspired whom, like you said, Johan, the Sterling/Nova/Eagle is stunning from all angles, has been for almost 40 years, and is the ONLY car with a lifting canopy to ever make it to the road (as far as I know).

They aren't perfect cars by any means. But as I've said before, I still grin every time someone asks me if that's some "new" kind of car. How timeless is a design that it has looked consistently 'futuristic' for 38 years?! :)

Johan, I would LOVE to come visit you guys. That would be an adventure in many wonderful ways. To put this in perspective, Rick (Letterman7) lives 90 minutes away from me and I have yet to find time to see his project. Fuzz has a Cimbria 30 minutes from me that I've seen at shows but have never otherwise seen. And SebringKrazy is about 45 minutes away and now has TWO Sebrings that I've never seen. If nothing else, you've just lit a fire under my butt to at LEAST make sure that I make time to visit some of those people that are practically in my back yard.

A trip over to you guys would be wonderful, if sadly improbable. Thank goodness for the internet. I get a huge kick out of seeing your projects and hearing Eagle owner's experiences. We're always glad to hear from you and Joe.

You're right. Consider yourself squarely added to the "people I have to get off my butt and go visit" list. Moreover, the "northeast" guys should all get together sometime for a Sterling meet. Wintertime sucks for major get-togethers, but maybe we can all start to plan something for the spring. You definitely should plan to get to Carlisle this year. We had four Sterlings and a Sebring there this year, which was an unexpected and wonderful turnout. With you, SebringKrazy, and any of the New York crowd, we could really make a showing this year. Seriously, research the date and start planning. (It's in mid May. Look up 'Events at Carlisle'."

Traveling times??

Hi guys,

If we do some mathematics I don't know if it spelled correctly but here me out and here we go.

If i'm assume that you guys only drive at 55 miles an hour (80km/h)before making friends with the Kings of the shades. Then farfegnubbin has done only 1100 miles but this is not true because he has to stiop at a gas station and a eating place to do all the other refueling tasks then the 1100miles (1760km) is a bit far.

In our language down here that is not so far. For us to visit the guys in Cape Town it is 1500km and roughly 15hours drive at a average of 100km/h

You guys mouning about driving to do that in a Sterling must be devine.

Myself and Eddie went for the Wheels @the Vaal (Vaal river) in the beginning of September and man that trip was out of the books it took us 2hours there and then in the afternoon 2 hours back. It was real fun.

I think that we have to look into a dissolving agent to get the bodies in a moving position and not glued to the TV or games.

Ja the visit isue is something else and I am joking about it with a pinch of seriousnous included. For you guys to come and visit is a ball because for every ten Rand I spend down here it only cost you guys a Dollar. So it is a cheap destination for you guys to visit but for us to visit you is another story because when you spend one doller for a cooldrink or something it costs me ten rand.

Hey but thanks for your guys chats I am looking forward to the next one and cannot wait to have a quiet time to share my thoughts with you guys.

Eagle Greetings

Johan Oosthuizen:)*laugh*

Silly Jonah... I only drive 55 mph when I'm decelerating back down from hyperspace. :D

My personal record is to drive 30 hours round trip to pick up my first Sterling body way back in 1992 (I think). I started in Pennsylvania on our East coast and drove well into Iowa in the center of our country. It was a wonderful adventure in a tired old van from the early '80s pulling a home made flatbed that I made out of a boat trailer with planks from and old redwood deck that we'd just taken off my dad's house.

I admire you guys for taking the time and making the treks to celebrate your cars in South Africa. Two thumbs up. *thumbs up**thumbs up*

Throw a story or photo our way every once in a while. You're always welcome 'round here. Good conversation with friends will always cost zero USD and zero rand. *proud*
