Heres another one made in the UK

http://www.red9design.co.uk/wishbones.htm

2,012.10 USD

Wow. Yep, now that's what I was imagining; a totally bolt-on, modern performance front for the Bug suspension. I like it. It's not even crazy expensive considering what's there. But I think that to get it shipped to our shores would probably be another grand. Can you imagine how nice it would handle, though? :)

And Shane, you're right. That Fiero front looks like it could work, though I think you'd have to narrow it a few inches. (Not sure.) I don't know. For some reason, I'm much more intimidated by cutting suspension to make it narrower than I would be by making a chassis longer or shorter. I'm nervous about accidentally changing the suspension geometry in some important way by not understanding the subtleties of it.

That's why I was excited to find one of two companies that were making tested, narrowed Mustang II fronts. I figured that they solved all of that stuff for me and all I would have to do is to find a way to bolt it on.

For that bolt-on solution from the UK, I wonder how much of it is totally custom and how much is easy to source. Obviously the cross-member is custom. I wonder whether the wishbones are custom or are borrowed. Same with the spindles: They actually look very suspiciously like Ghia spindles that have had a custom steering horn added. That's great, but you're stuck if you ever need a replacement.

Then again, how often do you need to replace a spindle. Especially on a car that's likely to be driven only a few hundred miles a year.

I definitely wish my car's handling/suspension felt more modern. It goes where I point it, but it feels old an rattle-y and has bump-steer that really gets your attention.

*laugh* Cat for scale only....

Oh dear Rick. Apparently you don't know anything....It's common knowledge that all Fiero suspension parts were inspected by highly trained cats as a cost-saving measure. (As a footnote, the Asian car makers also tried this but somebody allegedly kept eating all their inspectors.)

I found a California company that also makes a bolt on A-Arm suspension. They make them mainly for the off road / dune buggy market. The suspension on their web page is much wider than stock, but they can also make stock length. I will down in LA in April, and I will drop by shop to see if this will work with a Sterling or not.

That looks and sounds interesting. All of the photos are for long-travel, off road uses, but it seems like the basic mount would lend itself to a stock height. Definitely let us know if you visit or contact them and it seems like they have stuff we could use.

I heard back from Pete at a-arm.com and he said that he was into off road long travel only. He did recommend to look at Eyeball Engineering. Since Eyeball Engineering has already been posted to this thread, I will not post the link again.

I also talked to these guys via the volksrod site.
He told me they had monster brakes on the first setup they had. But apparently they so much braking force they ripped the drivers side front wheel clean off.

Great bunch of guys, like you said expensive. But it would be a great upgrade.

There is one huge fly in the ointment. that is the fact mustang II suspensions work very well with a v8 in it.

It would probably float all over the road with out the weight
