Not written off Cyco, just sold about 10 years ago.Brian, the canopy seal was put there because it made sense to me at the time. It sealed with the upper seal perfectly - no leaks.

What can you tell me about the car. I know you haven't owned it in a long time but does it look like much has changed?
Could you email me some photos that you might still have?
Is that a new targa top on the car or something you made?
I wonder why the car is listed in the computer parts section of craigslist?
I'll give the owner a call this morning and see what he can tell me about his ownership.
I'm only a few hours from there. Might be worth the drive over.

In negotiations now.. Roger in Tampa is also talking to the current owner - we'll see what happens. If I wind up with the car again, the Rose car will be going up for sale as I would need the room.

Looks like the car is going to Roger on the other Florida coast. Had a nice chat with him shortly after I got off the phone with the owner. He seems like the guy that will take care of the car rather than chop it up to suit his wants. Also gave me a bit of perspective.. and a little more incentive to make the Rose car a kick-ass ride.

Thanks Roger. I think I made my peace with it going to a good home. Like I mentioned, space is at a premium here and I really don't want to give up one of my cars. But who knows.. if you make it to Carlisle maybe I'll change my mind. Enjoy the car, I know I did!

#114 Is now at its new home.
So the car is here and made the journey across the state without a hitch. The seller was a nice guy and only owned the car for 2 weeks. He said the proceeds will be going to the widow of the gentleman who Rick sold the car to that has passed away.
So does this mean I have to change my bio to include the new car?

You can, I'd prefer a simple new build thread to document the new t-tops that you're going to make for it

I will start a new build thread at some point soon. I have some work to do to make the car ready for the road. One thing that is going to be great about having a running / driving car is I will now be able to see what I like and don't like about the Sterling. Having a driving example will give me great insight while building #310 as what I think needs changed / improvement.
Rick, I didn't see a builders journal on this car. Is there one? What can you tell me about this cars history???

Uh-oh... if you don't want to share the details here, PM me with what's wrong with the car I was afraid that the guy I had sold it to wouldn't take care of it. He saw it only as a piece of jewelry and knew nothing about Volkswagens.

The car is not in bad condition especially for a 10+ year old restoration. Paint still looks pretty good but there is some damaged in a few spots. Nothing that I can't live with that's for sure and I don't think I will mess with that at all. I always like the paint .... I can remember it when I was collecting photos when I bought #310. Brake lights don't work so that will be the first thing I address. I think rats / mice have spent a little time inside ..... I know that smell all too well ( I am in about 10 attics each week). The shifter hits the dash, probably just an adjustment but now its hard to get into first. Motor runs good but leaks oil real bad. Might just be because someone over filled it, I'll get that figured out.
To be safe I have to do some front end work, the car drifts all over. So I believe it needs an alignment and a new steering dampner for sure. I can see that's not going to be easy. I have to make some changes to the pedals to be more user friendly, just too difficult / tight with my boots on and the angle can be improved. I'm sure in the coming weeks, I will find a few more things I need to work on. I will definitely be making new top panels right away. I really don't care for how they look or work. I know you said you would do the same if you had owned it longer.
Overall I am pleased with the purchase. I certainly don't think I can get hurt with this buy. I think If I wanted to I could put it out by the road and make a few bucks flipping it right away. No worries Rick, that's not the plan.

The shifter was always a little tight to the dash but I never had an issue with shifting. I can't recall if I had replaced the shifter coupler at the back or not. I know I never replaced the guide bushing though. I do know I had replaced all the ball joints, steering coupler and steering damper as well as all the shocks. The pedals.. I had bent the clutch pedal over to the left by a couple inches but didn't bend the brake. The gas pedal was a roller pedal. I usually wore sneakers driving it (or even went barefoot) but didn't have too much trouble with size 12 cowboy style work boots.
That's a shame. Delivering the car, the PO had me drive it into his garage - an unattached, unheated and dirt floor garage. It doesn't surprise me that mice had gotten into it. Gads...

Tip, Cut off or bend back out of the way, the gear shift rod support bracket in the tunnel and replace it with a rose joint, means a nut on the top of the tunnel but a lot stronger and a tighter shifter.
Great to see a car getting the essentials done and driven instead of being ripped apart to (possibly) reappear in years time.
