windshield washer

Looking into windshield washer kits.
Who has them on their car? What was it taken from.
How is it set up?

I don't really like the "wet arm" style washers, the type Dave sells.

Both of mine used the stock Bug setup, though I switched the reservoir bottle over to a remote plastic one with a built in electric pump on the old car. The new car has the same system - air pressure feed bag with a push button release! The nozzles you can put just about anywhere on the skirt in front of the canopy.

When I was younger, and up to no good,...( I know I'm leaving that one WIDE OPEN)

We found out that the little nozzle in the hood mounted windshield sprayer move in their housings because we had plugged one up with car wax one day and were using a sewing needle to unclog it.:D

So as a joke we aimed the nozzle pieces very high (as high as it would go).*laugh*The next time my mom went to use her sprayers, she shot the cleaning solution right over the top of her car. Not even a single drop hit the window. :D

along those lines, I had friends that would turn them sideways and squirt people on the sidewalks as they drove by them. *nothing to see*

Yep... knew a guy in college that did that, but put ink in the tank instead... he didn't last too long before the campus pd got a hold of him :D.

this is what I was thinking of getting wetstorm

Have them pop up the same way pop up lights work.
Wire it so that the pump is shut off if the nozzles aren't up and if the canopy is open.

A rotating bar with a flap at each end connected to a small linear actuator.
When the actuator pulls the flaps open revealing the nozzles.
When the actuator pushes the flaps close.
Nothing fancy.

Might use a small servo instead of the actuator.

Wow sounds pretty fancy to me.

I was just thinking about single dual nozzled sprayer mounted under the base of the wiper arm. since things are VERY space limited in that area. then run a single tube across to the lifting arms, then down and into the trunk area to the tank.

If I was going to go through all that trouble I would just attach the nozzle to the wiper itself.
although mounting it at the base is a cool idea

Even though this post is 2 years old I thought I'd add to it.

I have finished the install and wiring of my wipers and the issue of what to do about a washer was next. Because the windshield lays back so much I was concerned of finding a sprayer that would hit the windshield and not spray over the top of the car. Another concern was I didn't want to go through the canopy with it. I wanted the spray nozzel(s) mounted down by or in the front hood/bonnet. The reservoir is mounted under the hood/bonnet

This is what I came up with and so far with the car not moving it does spray the windshield.

The spray nozzel sits low enough that it sprays under the wiper arm. You might have to click on the picture to inlarge it to see the spray pattern

Close up view. The nozzels are made of metal and can be bent alittle so you can tweak(adjust) them to get the right height and it sits low so it doesnt look like a wart on the car

So what did they come out of?? 1990 volvo 740. I found three different nozzels that look the same. The difference was the spray pattern. One had a narrow "V" spray pattern(thats what I'm using) the other had a wider "V" spray pattern and the last one had one nozzel that sprayed straight and the other at an angle.

One other note of intrest. I did not use the volvo pump for the test. I'm still looking for a reservoir/pump that fits in the space aloted for it. The reservior/pump I used for the test came out of a 1991 RX7

Here are the three different nozzel patterns
The other nozzel that goes with this one is a reversed image of this one

This is the one I used

I like those, Brett. I never really thought about a windshield washer. It does give the car that "complete" look that makes it look less like a kit and more like a car that was built on purpose, if that makes sense. Good show.
